(http://www.massively.com/)Our sister site Massively (http://www.massively.com/) covers many different angles of the MMO universe - it's not all just World of Warcraft over there. Which is not to say we don't love WoW! Our weekly roundup will try to give you a look at the best WoW-related content on Massively from the last week. You can click on the links below or subscribe to a special WoW-only Massively feed (http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/12/21/wow-insider-and-massively-special-wow-24-7-feed/) to follow our ongoing coverage of your favorite game. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/dfc_thumbnail.jpg (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/15/how-do-mmos-make-money/) How do MMOs make money? (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/15/how-do-mmos-make-money/)
The Simple Lifeforms blog went through a recent DFC Intelligence report on the most commercially successful MMOs and pulled out some interesting points. World of Warcraft took home the most revenue for a single game in 2008 with an estimated $500M+ and all MMOs combined (worldwide) earned an estimated $1,875M. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/wowchinapic_thumbnail.jpg (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/13/chinese-online-game-market-operating-in-loss/) Chinese online game market operating in loss (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/13/chinese-online-game-market-operating-in-loss/)
When many of us think about MMOs, we think about companies who rake more money than we could dream about. Enough money to put together a scale model of Paris made out of 20 dollar bills. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/2009_thumbnail.jpg (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/08/will-2009-be-the-best-year-ever-for-mmos/) Will 2009 be the best year ever for MMOs? (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/08/will-2009-be-the-best-year-ever-for-mmos/)
Tipa is wondering if the upcoming 2009 MMO titles will make this year the best yet for MMOs. EVE Online will be receiving its highly anticipated Apocrypha expansion pleasing the "impact PvP" crowd. Free Realms will soon launch to the delight of families around the world, providing another option in the "kid friendly" category. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2009/03/jim_cramer-1_thumbnail.jpg (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/14/co-chairman-of-activision-blizzard-cashes-in-stock-for-20-milli/) Co-Chairman of Activision Blizzard cashes in stock for $20 million (http://www.massively.com/2009/03/14/co-chairman-of-activision-blizzard-cashes-in-stock-for-20-milli/)
Just in time for Activision Blizzard's earnings report, Co-Chairman Brian Kelly liquidated 2 million shares of his stock in the company on March 12, earning over $20 million in the process. http://www.wowinsider.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.wowinsider.com)Last Week on Massively: WoW-related stories (http://www.wowinsider.com/2009/03/17/last-week-on-massively-wow-related-stories/) originally appeared on WoW Insider (http://www.wowinsider.com) on Tue, 17 Mar 2009 10:30:00 EST.
