Is this actually accurate? Does anyone know? If so, it will be incredibly hard to choose certifications... :(

If it is, I believe I'll go for Galaxy cert at battlerank 2. That way at least one of us will have it early on.

Yeah, I saw this somewhere else, but I hope I don't have to get up to lvl 16 before I become a truly useful soldier.... We will see what's up during the open Beta, with the thought that at least one of us makes it onto it.

If every single one of us signs up, I think we have a decent chance of getting a man in.

There is another thing I've been thinking about, regarding certs and stuff, I'd like some feedback on.

You are allowed to have four characters on any server for any copy of the game. I presume that each of these characters must have different names. I also presume that many of s will want to have several characters, specialized in different areas. Now to my question, should we employ or even allow a naming convention?

Say that I would like four characters; a soldier, a pilot, a medic/tech and a groundvehicle driver. Should I name these characters accordingly, i.e. THZWoCGrunt, THZWoCPilot, THZWoCMedic, THZWoCDriver? The pros to this choice are mainly that teammates can readily see what character I'm playing, they don't have to learn that THZWoC1 is the pilot, THZWoC2 is the medic, and so on. My concern is that the enemy, using an advanced targetting implant, will also be able to readily identify me as for ex. a medic, and thus kill me first.

Feedback? Give me your thoughts.

The thing is you can only have ONE player on a single server.

Er, forgot the last part of my message.

But you can have three or four DIFFERENT players on seperate servers, just no more than one per server from what I could tell.

I think naming your character in that kind of convention would be a BAD idea, as say, if you were a base infiltrator/hacker, you might be THZ*WoCHacker or something, and anyone with some sense would know to kill you before every other target he may have, and he would pass that info on to his teammates, and make sure that you were the primary target, even tho we may have 3 or 4 hackers trying to infiltrate a base.

That's my opinion, but I think the number system may be better, unless the client has you name the character for sanity's sake, and when you're in the field, you're simply displayed as THZ*WoC, and then you would have to tell us what role it is you're playing tonight.

But I have another thought on multiple characters. I don't like the idea. Maybe have 2 characters total, 1 for normal ATf stuff, and another just for fun, or for something different. My reasoning is this: We're going to have a redundancy to all the ability types, right? So we'd most likely get into a groove of who does what best, and we'd want to place the people accordingly, and we'd know who has what certs/implants, and we can plan accordingly.

To keep that all straight, Once the game ships, I'd like each affiliated clan to have a stickied thread in the joint strike section, and each member with 1 post that is theirs, where they post all the vital stats about their characters, and keep it updated as their battle rank and certs and implants increase. This way, a quick check of a clan indicates who is capable of what, and we don't need to hunt anyone down and find out what their characters are capable of. Make sense? I hope so.

Also, I think we're a little soon to start knocking too many ideas out of the air, as we all don't know the nitty gritty details of the game. I wish we had an inside source like we did during T2 development, as Craig Maitlen, the T2 Art Director is a member of the XMEN, and has been since before T2 began their dev cycle. (Litle known tidbit for ya. ;) ) Because then, we could get some details, and truly be ready for whatever is coming.

Nope. 4 characters per server. And you can play on every server available. It's just like DAoC or EQ in that regard. Conceivably, you could have 20 different characters...but I don't think that's really going to happen.

That's a hell of an idea.

One thing I thought of is that if we want to, we could have an ATF character and a tribe character. So I could have a character in ATF and then I could have a TKB character.

From what I heard about the cert system as well, you can give up some certification slots so you can use other abilities. The timer on this isn't set, but the last I heard was 24 hrs, so it's a bit of a pain if you want to switch right now, but with a little planning, we could have very specialized fighters for specific missions.

darb, why do I picture you and your computer...somehow, there's gigabytes of saved IRC chats that are cataloged so you can bring up an old chat for whatever suits your purpose?

Best thing you've ever said, most likely. Best thing you've said since I got to know you, anyway... :p This we WILL do, I'd say.
Perhaps it would even be a good idea to start these threads up a bit early, so that people can post their 'wishing lists' before release. Then maybe we can get some balance of certs from day One. Then again, it might prove entirely unnecessary.

But I have another thought on multiple characters. I don't like the idea. Maybe have 2 characters total, 1 for normal ATf stuff, and another just for fun, or for something different. Next best thing you've ever said. Next best thing you've said since I got to know you anyway... With only a single character you'd gain ranks, and thus certs, faster and will be a much greater asset for the alliance.

I'm going to have at least two characters, neither of which will have a fancy naming convention, or numbers, or even tags (most likely) for that matter. Besides the outfit tag of course. One will be Splidz - assault medic with MAX abilities and tank driver, your typical all-around ****-you-up and pump you full of rounds guy - the other will be Glaed, someone a little more subtle, hacker or sniper perhaps, maybe with some Mosquito piloting skills.

I love these skill sets, they are so friggin cool!

I also think about piloting a Galaxy, but I'm terrified of crashing the thing with a full crew on board, can you say GRIEF points not to mention a DEAFENING chorus of jeers and criticism over the teamspeak channel. Ouch!!!
