OK.. In the Market for a Laptop in the next 2 weeks or so, and I'm looking for thses basic specs:

P4 3.0 or 3.2 GHz w/ HT,
512Mb (Min) RAM
60Gb 5400RPM HDD (I'm more concerned about speed than capacity)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 or 9700 w/ 128Mb RAM or Nvidia equvalent,
Built in WiFi, (802.11G)
DVD-CD-RW combo drive,
and a media reader for SD cards.
And Win XP Pro.

I've found 3 real contenders for my price range, and was wondering if anyone had any more opinions on these brands:

HP (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/cart/cart_detail.jsp?clear_previous_order=true&cto_add=1&BV_SessionID=@@@@1300425102.1094763024@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgadcmhkffhkdcfngcfkmdflldfgf.0&BEA_BackURL=%2fcomputer_series.do%3fstoreName%3dcomputer_store%26category%3dnotebooks%2fhp_pavilion%26series_name%3dzx5000_series%26catLevel%3d2)
iBuyPower (http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=85)
Cyber Power (http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/highendsystem/ntbkx55000.asp?v=d)
(With the Cyber Power and iBuyPower model, select the red color option, and the 3.2GHz CPU, Kingston RAM, and WinXP pro to see the prices.)

Any other models out there that are comparable to these and in the smae price range? Anyone heard of any other Mfgrs. that are worth anything? Any help would be appreciated.

I actually had a chance to buy a brand new lot of Dell Inspirons with almost those same specs for half price a couple of weeks ago , me and my buddy only wanted one each but I didnt want the hassle of having to unload all of them plus come up with kind of cash. I dont know if I can get the deal again but I'll let you know.

To get the Inspiron 9100 equipped how I'm looking at the other ones is about $500 more than I can afford.. Plus the warranties? Dell is asking too much for a decent notebook. :(

Still, what kind of framerate, and at what graphics and resolution are you playing at? I imagine I could get similar performance with another brand of laptop, Maybe more, maybe less. :D

steady 40 fps in zerg. but i only have 512 so my hard drive drops it to 0.3fps like 512 in any machine would with this game. 200 inside.

1024x768 res.

That's pretty respectable, especially for a laptop.
