Hamilton is about 45 minutes west of Toronto. I just looked up International Falls, that is nowhere near where I live! Man, Ontario is a huge province.

Anyway, there's a hill about 2 1/2 hours north of me in a town called Collingwood, the hill is called Blue Mountain. It's about 1000 ft high or so. I have a season's pass so I practice there a lot for the bigger hills. This year I made it out to Mont Tremblant in northern Quebec twice, that's about an 8 hour drive from Hamilton but totally worth it, the hill is SWEET.

Last year I visited Whistler, BC, which was awesome, and hopefully I can make it out there again next year.

How about yourself? Where do you go?

SirDiesalot
03-14-2003, 12:38 PM
there's just a mediocre hill in mid northern MN called giants ridge, not too bad, got some stuff on it, jumpes... half pipe... etc.. but it's really nothing particularly special unless you live in north dakota. i'm not quite convinced that it's long enough to reach terminal velocity for the angle of the main run but you could easily kill yourself on it, it has a few black diamonds and one rated double black but it's of course just a stupid slalom (which i hate and cannot do even on skis) at an extremely steep angle.

tremblant quebec huh? that still sounds like a big ol' trip so i think i'll go to colorado again next time i go somewhere. only been there (vail) once. got some sweet panaramic pics. i luv mountains. i was on skis when i was there, so i vow to go back on my snowboard next time (assuming they let me. i hear they get cultish about ski's vs snowboards sometimes)

i'll edit this when/if i look up info about giants ridge on height etc.

Hey Dies, here's the Tremblant page:

http://www.tremblant.ca/mountain/

Elevation at the summit: 875 meters (2871 feet)
Vertical drop of the south side : 645 meters (2 116 feet)
Annual snowfall average: 382 cm (150 inches)
Snowfall for 1996-1997: 482 cm (190 inches)
Snowfall for 1997-1998: 280 cm (112 inches)
Snowfall for 1999-2000: 343 cm (138 inches)
Snowfall for 2000-2001: 348 cm (140 inches)

248 hectares / 610 acres of skiable ground
188 hectares / 464 acres of fabricated snow

Up to 7 months of ski per year
92 trails
Total length of trails: 75 km (46,6 miles)
Longest trail: Nansen - 6 km (3,75 miles)
77 hectares / 31 acres of glades

Trails that reach 42 degrees of inclination

Trails classification:
Beginners: 17%
Intermediate: 33%
Expert: 50%

Snowboard: access to every trail in addition to 2 specially designed areas for snowboarders

Number of snow-blowers: 790

Number of ski-lifts: 13

Lift capacity: 27 230 skiers/ hour

Let me tell you, those "50% expert trails" are no joke, there are some hills I would be scared to walk down! The most fun I had this year boarding were the tree runs at Tremblant plus bombing some wicked regular runs there, and playing around in the park at Blue Mountain.

Blue Mountain is at www.bluemountain.ca

Blue Mountain is Ontario's Largest Mountain Resort. At 720 vertical feet and 2 ½ miles wide, Blue Mountain is a snow sport paradise providing skiers and snowboarders of all levels a wide variety of terrain. The resort is action packed with 34 trails over 253 acres ranging from beginner to double black diamond, 3 terrain parks, 3 half-pipes including 2 super-pipes, a snowtubing park and 12 lifts, including 4 high speed express chairs to move you uphill fast.

Not nearly as big as Tremblant but still a lot of fun. It's great meeting a gamer who also likes the outdoor sports, especially the "extreme" stuff.

Is that the thing... kinda has the ring of complexity theory... something about complex behavior resulting from indefinite repetition of simple iterative rules, and how this guy thinks that something like that could be the basis for natural law?
