ATF Madden?

My random thought of the day...the new Madden comes out tomorrow and supposedly supports online franchise (so the whole shin-dig or drafts, trades and multi-year stuff) on the Xbox 360 (and probably the PS3 as well, but meh). Do we have enough people with 360s and Live accounts that would be interested in an ATF setup?

The Q&A on what the differences between the franchise and online leagues are can be found here. All the online web stuff sounds like a Gryph-hook, but I think it'd be a neat thing to try.

Buy me an XBox and I'll get the game and play.

O RLY Stoke?

And Moo: I think they're adding a lot of the subtlety that's missing from Madden like pile-pushing (they've been hawking that for a while in their ads) and fumble dog-piles where you fight for the ball rather than "oh look...random player X has the ball", but I'll let you know for sure though.

You can just send me the cash. I will go get the XBox instead of you trying to ship it to me.

I would maybe if we have a good turn out. I have gotten a few sports games before and they don't last long. If we had a night or two dedicated to it, like Malthus and Soup, they play Wednesdays, with enough ATF people on board I would be persuaded.

And miss the opportunity to go to NC and go shopping with you for Xboxes? Merrily skipping through the aisles while singing a delightful song about chummery and friendship? Whatchu talkin' bout Stokkis?

And Gryphy, yeah...I think we'd have to do something like that (you can play outside those times if you and your opponent that week agree) but at X time, we're moving forward.

Re: ATF Madden?

As soon as I recover from the news that we picked up Vick... o_O

The rational part of my mind says that Vick paid his debt, carried through so far on promises to be a spokesman against his former ways, has the support of people of unimpeachable moral character (Tony Dungy, among others), is going to a team that is known for a strong work ethic in a 'blue-collar' town", that McNabb and Vick are friends (Donnie Mac being the one who told him to come to the NFL when he did) and that a successful return to the NFL as a humble and contrite person can give this story a positive ending which would let it be more than "how to fuck up a perfect gig" and instead be proof that everyone in this country gets a second chance.

Despite all that, I read the indictment. I know that compared to other player's who have taken/endangered/been arguably complicit in the deaths of humans, what he did was relatively minor in the scale of "bad things" that people have done that still play in the NFL...but still, the sheer brutality of that entire affair was frightening. At the same time, to bar someone from the NFL forever for killing animals when people who kill humans have a chance to return...something seems awry with that too. I love animals, but if I had the chance to save a human or save an animal, there's not really a question that I save the human (unless the animal is Nimmy and the human has no boobs, of course).

I guess I'll reserve judgment on how smart/stupid this move is until after more information is available, but jeez...

don't lie... you already ordered your jersey...

Re: ATF Madden?

The only Eagles jerseys I have that I paid for is my collection of Donovan McNabb ones (green, white and black so's I can usually match up). I think I have a T.O. jersey that's too small floating around that I got for Christmas just before the Eagles went to the Super Bowl (i.e. - pre-meltdown), but that's about it.

The biggest question for me is why? It's not that I think Vick is wholly undeserving of his chance for redemption as I'm growing rather weary of our drift to "once a scumbag, always a scumbag" attitude in the US, but I just don't see where it makes football sense. As I remarked to Shadow last night, there has to be a plan there. They're not taking the PR hit and paying him that much money to have him ride the pine all year long. He's not going to be the starting QB, #5 is the man there. He's not going to play RB, because Vick was made of paper when he played and the NFC East hits like real men when you have the ball, not the sissy pillow-fights that the NFC South has during run plays...so that's out. He's far too small to be a tight-end and why would you have him be a receiver when you already have too many veterans?

Seems like a rather heavy price to pay for a Wildcat specialist, even if he is a better Wildcat-er than anyone else in the league.

Re: ATF Madden?

The only part of that column that I disagree with is the part about McNabb being concerned. He and Vick are well-known friends going back to when neither of them was in the NFL. Vick stayed at Syracuse in McNabb's room back when Vick was being recruited and cited McNabb as one of the people who told him to leave VA Tech a year early for the NFL. Had they brought in Brett Farve, yes...McNabb would be miffed. Bringing in his friend that hit rough times and is looking for a chance for redemption...somehow I doubt that McNabb is putting on that brave public face for show. In fact, it could be that McNabb was one of the drivers of this deal...maybe we'll find out in the coming weeks.

Re: ATF Madden?

But like anything, that article was just the writers opinion. Hell, yesterday, Foxsports all but had published a photoshopped pic of Vick in a Panthers uniform....they were dead sure thats where he was going....
