Now that we have the playoff dance card...

Happy ATFers:

Stoke (EDIT: And his padawan, Moo) - Panthers did well in the regular season
Silvertalon - Sneaky bastiches those Iggles are...but we'll take miracle appearances too.
SpinningHat - Knocking off the world champs for your division is a nice thing, even if the Giants didn't care
Cannonball - Still has Matt Ryan.
Danerune - 1-15 to division champs...impresive.

Sad ATFers:

Banne - So close, so far...the Eagles will send you guys something nice from Minnesota.
Gryph and Stang - Yeah, I think they gave up on the NFL a while ago for the year.

Other ATFers:

Reme - Damn, karma's a bitch isn't she? I do think it's a bit lame that 11-5 doesn't get in, while whoever wins the AFC West will be two games back at best. Still, DAMN that karma thing sucks. :)
Torm - You root for the Cowgirls, you deserve to watch them piss away opportunities. :D

I have to say, I am pleased with the result, but think the Vikings could have and should have played better. At least it wasn't a fumblefest. :o I wonder what fried Eagle tastes like? :D

Foiled by a goddamned screen pass... great game till the 4th, the Vikes were in it till then... :/ Here's to hoping they fire Brad Childress, resign Matt Birk and Darren Sharper, and find us a new QB. T-Jack can handle being a backup for another year.

The Eagles won't be able to beat the Giants, and the Panthers will handle the Cardinals.. Panthers upset the Giants for the NFC title? Anyone?

There's a reason that Carolina is the #2 seed...

I'm sticking with "Don't pick against the champs until they lose" which in the Belicheat era has been a fairly solid predictor. This presumes, however, that we don't see Brian Westbrook play as Minnesota is now painfully aware he can play. He doesn't have the nickname of "Giantslayer" because he spends a lot of time in video games after all. ;)

If...and I say *IF* the Kittys beat the Cards....and depending on the other game...

I say its 50/50 that the Kittys could beat the Giants in NY.. the 1st meeting proved it could go either way.

100% that the Kittys beat the Iggles in Charlotte.

I wouldn't be so sure on that one. The homefield advantage in Charlotte doesn't even begin to compare to the Metrodome or the Meadowlands which the Eagles will have already weathered...I mean, name another stadium where they use those guys from the golf courses with the big "QUIET" signs. :p

However, the Giants vs. Eagles is a game I'm not sure of, which of course means it's a good matchup. I knew going into this past weekend that the Vikings couldn't win (sorry SH, it's true). If the Vikes had won, it'd basically be the Eagles doing something stupid and giving the game away which is entirely possible. There was, however, no chance of Minnesota coming out and beating the Eagles through the imposition of will. The Giants, however, are more than capable of doing it...even if they utterly failed to do so last time.

Carolina is too much like the Eagles to say they'll beat anyone hands down, especially as sick as the Eagles defense has been since Arizona on Thanksgiving. Too often I've seen Carolina come out and lay eggs against teams that shouldn't have been on the field with them. They aren't called the Cardiac Cats for nothing.

while anything can ( and usually does) happen.....

I base my theories on (counting pre-season), the Kittys are 10-0 at The Bank this
season. The only team to be perfect at home.

And I don't doubt that Carolina can take Arizona...but if the Cards remember how to play defense with the timezone shift (bad news for the Kitties is the late start probably plays to that) then it becomes a very iffy equation for the Cats. Say what you will about it being the Cardinals...they have big receivers and a strong-arm QB. The Kitties have a good secondary, but if their offense doesn't help them out it's only a matter of time before Warner hits something. Of course, you can swap the teams around and say the exact same thing.

Iggles vs. G-Men is far too narrow to actually call. You can give the nod to the Giants based on homefield, defending champs and a week off...but one thing that stands out about that is that none of them have to do so much with what a team does on the field directly. So that should hopefully be a really good game to watch.

As for the AFC, Baltimore and their robot QB (watch his postgame interview and tell me that his stone-cold stoicism doesn't make you wonder when he's going to slip and go "Resistance is futile, puny humans") are actually pretty scary. Their defense won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer as QB, which is arguably harder than taking a rookie, so I don't think that's an issue. It used to be that the Colts and Patriots just had too much firepower for the Ravens to counter...but, you'll notice neither of those teams are present this time around.

I think the AFC game be Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh (boy would that be a grudgematch) and then Carolina and whoever screws up less between the NFC Beast teams.

Random newspaper yada yada....

Of course, DeAngelo Williams ran for 108 yards when the Panthers beat the Cardinals 27-23 earlier this season, and he's even hotter now. Plus, the Panthers didn't have offensive tackle Jeff Otah and center Ryan Kalil for that game. Maybe a healthy line and a dominant D-lo -- plus that Panthers' home magic -- will do what the Falcons couldn't last weekend.

Michael Turner > Carolina backs, and the Cards handled him pretty easily. Of course, knowing that you stop Turner and you stop the Falcons helped since it put the game on Matt Ryan who is, at the end of the day, still a rookie. Not as easy against the Cats, but they CAN stop the run...if they do that and manage to jump out early...who can the Cats turn to when Steve Smith is covered by 6 DBs? :p
