Finally one day he just stopped doing that and would just ride the bike endlessly around the courtsquare before finally stopping at the cafe and lock the bike up with about 50 feet of chain. True Story. |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Pffft we have people doing that up and down our street everyday.
|
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
I thought he was telling us a personal story about his own childhood.

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
It's the begining of the end. They blocked Blizzard's website today at work.
|
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Nooooooooooooooooooo!
Probably the only reason they havent shut me down from coming here during work is that fact that Mrs. Stoke works in the department that controls that..... |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Yeah I work in that department too, but sites blocked come down from above.
How can I make the WoW site work related??? |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Tell them your discussing ideas and stratagies to benefit the company with others on that site which is nothing but a fancy name to make it more appealing to the newer companies.

Maybe Blizzard could offer a special deal for patients? or Doctors? Nurses? or System Programmers in Information Systems?? |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
"The popular online game 'World of Warcraft' (or WoW, as it is commonly known) presents an opportunity for <insert hospital name here> to research the potential of video games to act as a social gateway to patients who would otherwise be confined to the hospital grounds or even in the room with limited social interaction with hospital staff. The ability to interact with other people and have a task at hand to occupy their minds away from their physical hardships could lead to a marked improvement in patient happiness and quality of life, which has been linked to increased recovery times.
It would also allow for the potential for distant relatives to stay in touch with their ill family members in an entertainment venue so that the patients and their families can feel together and temporarily forget about the gravity of being hospitalized while keeping the interruptions to the hospital staff to a minimum. Similar results have already been shown to be possible with divorced parents and their children, so it begs the question on whether such a thing would be beneficial to improving the life of those in our care. Of course, such a program must be conducted carefully, so it would fall the IT group to study the impact such a move would have on our network (which of course must remain devoted to medical needs first), as well as further research into the social networking access and potential ramifications of such interactions. While World of Warcraft is currently the largest of such titles available, we should also leave open the possibility of adding other similar approaches and have the staff ready to investigate those new opportunities as the situation warrants." There ya go. :) |

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
I'm thinking ya better invest in a personal laptop and hope you can pick up some unencrypted wireless signal from a nearby business.
|
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
I have a wireless router right above my desk. I'll get a wireless card for a spare PC and set it up.

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Actually...and you DIDN'T hear this from me...at all...the way the cool kids get around web filters is via TOR (The Onion Router).
Here's a link to a version of Firefox Mobile tied to TOR that will run from a USB flash drive (or anywhere really) without an install. This isn't a guarantee of success...but if all you care about is web surfing, then it works pretty well. The bonus is that you're surfing more or less anonymously since your packets are actually passing through three separate, random servers before it reaches the destination host. The downside is that because your traffic is passing between three separate, random servers...browsing time is slow. However, Slow vs. None...not a bad deal. But, you didn't hear it from ME if you get busted and fired. :p |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
<Two men in black suits and wearing shades approach the front door. There is a sharp knock... then the door opens....>
1st Man: Hello, Mr. Ball? Cannon Ball? CB: Yes? May I help you? 2nd Man: You'll be coming with us. We have a few "questions" for you. <CB is led away and helped inside a plain white van parked on the street> |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
Does that program work for you Mr. Stoke? :p I'm actually curious if there's filtering software that beats TOR, because the way it's setup is pretty clever.
Also note that the goal of TOR is provide truly anonymous web-surfing, not to get around web filters. :p |
Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
I aint got the balls to try something like that at work. Mrs. Stoke would be all over it like CB on a plate of BBQ....

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
I'm on at work! I don't have the time to be posting! AAARRG! One armed paper hangers of the world unite! Why is it that when it snows all the customers show up wanting offices with PCs in different languages, and then the office managers start swapping customers around. Others have VPNs that use ports that no one uses so they are blocked by the packet filters and trying to get a hold of the network group and then explain the problem in detail to each person along the way so they will send me on to the next (although they all have to try to fix it even though I know they wont be able to) and after two days of being on the phone I get to talk to someone who actually can log into the network to inspect the VPN connection and see the ports and go oh, hang tight *flick* try now. WORKS! and then the customer is gone a week later! ARRRRG!
[Wall of CUSTOMERS] crits me for 10X10E6 [Work Ethic] fades from me I die |

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land
The best way would get someone to donate a WoW account to the hospital pediatric ward. Then you would have to tutor the children in the ward how to play the game. It would be hard work but someone would have to do it. LoL.
