I would very much like to be able to hit the up-arrow in the chatwindow to retype the last command, the way Unix and DOS command prompts work. Would such an addon be possible?

With the chat editbox open, you can use Alt-UpArrow to cycle through the last bunch of commands/whispers/etc you typed in. Additionally, Alt-LeftArrow will move the cursor backwards in the command for easier editing.
