Hiya,
I just got my Sapphire 9800 pro. And I've set everything on high. But I still dont see those eh..lights wich come of the gun.. you know the gun fire light (dont know how 2 explain it) Anyway does anyone here know what option that is because I really want that option switched on. I've seen it some times and I like it. I have everything on high, but i still get 30/40 fps, and I got 1024 of ram is this normal? Thank you Last edited by RocketMad; 12-08-2004 at 02:55 AM. |

Hey man,
Check the desired FPS rate. By default I think its 60. You can turn off the Adaptive LOD I think its called by dropping it down and turning it off. Then close planetside and restart it. I found that setting drops polygons and you miss alot of stuff because its dropping quality to keep a high frame rate. Even with my 6800 Ultra maxed out if I'm in a heavy battle I've seen it spike as low as 28 FPS but now that I'm running LCD's my max framerate is 60 FPS. I've ran around and did a bunch of tests with Doom 3, Jedi Knight:Acadamey, Dawn of War, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Ravenshield:Athena Sword and BattleFront and I have to say I'm the most disapointed with Planetside's engine. |

Thanks that did help alot. But I still dont get the gunfire lights on walls and stuff. I could do it with my Ti4200 but with the effect my framerate was like 5/10.. So i made screenshots of my settings, please take a look at it and tell me what i should change 2 see the gunfire lights.
and Thanks |

Vsync and Tripple buffer don't hurt from memory.
Looks like you have everything maxed out there man. I've never owned a ATI card however so maybe someone else will pop in here with similar specs. So if you had the lasher do you see the orbs you just don't see it hit the wall and explode. That to me is particle effects, which if your missing them you might just want to double check Direct X is installed ok. Just for clarification did you delete/uninstall your Ti4200 power off the system, take it out and put in your new ATI card, then power up and install the drivers? -Mark |

I have a 9800 Pro and have had no such problems. I ran in 1280x1024 and had all settings on high.
Try allocating more ram for video in your BIOS and download directx 9.0c, ati cats 9.13, and make sure ALL nVidia stuff related to video is removed.

Just worry about the graphics drivers for the Radeon family. I think the 4.13 are the newest but its either them or the 4.12.

Yeah thats a good point. In your bios there probably still set to 64MB so you have to "on boot" hit DEL or F1 normally to get into your bios. You can adjust the AGP memory in one of the menus there. Depends on who makes your board.
Check your direct x by going to Start/Run and type in dxdiag. DirectX Version will read 9.0c hopefully. |

You can allocate half of your ram. I have a gig but set mine at 256. For not being able to reboot...I dont know what to tell you Try updating your BIOS.

Yeah that sounds bogus with your bios. If you've got 256MB of ram on your 9800 Pro you should be fine. I left mine at 256 when I briefly had my card out of my system waiting on my 6800 Ultra and it worked fine. Card that was in temp was a Geforce 440 MX w/ 64MB of ram.
If you choose to try and update your bios keep in mind ie will clear out your setting normally and if your not familiar with this you might want to bush up a little on it first. |
