Mean Tricks To Play On Your Cat

Ok, this started in guild chat when Skillet said he threw a coke cap across the room and hit his cat in the face.

My favorite is to shuffle across the carpet building up some static electricity. Find the first available cat and point at it. My cats, being the stupid things they are, will always come up to investigate my finger. As that cold little nose finally touches the tip of my finger, they get the shock of their lives....

Quality entertainment that can be repeated several times throughout the day.

What else do we do to torture these things?

I chase ours around the house. She always hides under the couch or bed or behind the bookcases in the house.
When I go to get in the shower she always runs into the bathtub. I start the shower and wet her head. After 3 years you would think she would learn, but nope.

Ours get twice daily feedings, I just act like I'm going to feed them, walk past their bowl, stop, then continue on to the kitchen to get something for myself while they protest.

Our one cat has been driving us freaking nuts. Since we got cats about 8 months ago we've never let them sleep with us in the bedroom because it's irritating having them walk over you, purr in your face, clean themselves, etc.

Well Theo has decided that won't do and has learned to open the bedroom door, yes, by turning the door handle and pushing. All efforts to keep him out have failed, using a wedge to jam it closed (he dislodges the wedge), blasting him with water and compressed air (he doesn't care), coating the door handle in tin foil so he can't get a grip on it (he claws it off), etc.

Worse, when he's trying to get in he rattles the door knob, scratches on the door, and makes loud chirruping and whining noises. Sleep is impossible. When he gets in he will crawl into bed and then drape himself on our pillows right next to our head and then purr at 90 decibels. We're going fucking crazy, believe me.

Does anyone have a mean trick we can play on him that will keep him the heck away from our bedroom door? Something besides launching him from a cannon into the bay? My wife and I aren't sleeping and it is beginning to affect our relationship.

One of our cats liked to chew on cords and wire - phone, speaker, etc. We took a piece of speaker wire and hooked it to one of those big square 6v Latern batteries, hid the battery under the couch and left the wire out in the floor.

Spot doesnt chew on things anymore.....

My first cat did that. No one belived me that the little fucker could open doors. I ended up having to lock him up. Literally. His litter, food, water, bed, and a few toys all got moved into a (sizable) closet. I put a hook lock on the door (it HAS to be the kind that pulls back and latches, or the fussing with the door will knock it free) and put him in at bedtime. Now it was sheer hell at first as he whined and wailed well into the night, but after a few nights he settled down and accepted his new night time environment.

Ok, My mother had 14 cats at one point when i was growing up. So i know a little something about tricks with them and let me tell you the most fun thing to do with a cat is get them dizzy. Some cats arent so funny and just sit there stupid. Some don't get dizzy no matter how hard you try..... But 80% of them try to run as fast as they can or do some impossible feat immediatly after and it is fkin hilarious.

One of my mom's cats try to go for the dog door and totally missed, diving into the wall as if he had the aim of a sniper.

Our cats like to sit in the computer chairs, which spin really nice and alows us to stay not dizzy. They arent runners but they still try and walk a short distance. Ponce doesnt get dizzy anymore though, hes learned.

Of coarse if ur cat is a runner try not to do it too many times they can hurt themselves.

EDIT: Oh ya, we gave up on leaving the cats in one room, we have the handle type door knobs and they open real easy for our cats. Cabinets have to be child proofed as well. Luckly they havent figured out dead bolts yet

Nimitz is a very well-behaved cat...he's learned there's less beatings that way.

Flipping through a few sites indicate there's no one means of repelling cats. One I did find interesting was a powder that has the pheromones of fox and coyote urine in it (not that we can perceive such things). Apparently it triggers a fear response in cats and the shy away from such things.

I guess I just decided to cut out the middle-man and instill a fear response in my cat of ME. He's the most obedient little pet you could ever ask for......

That reminded me, if you get a kitten or maybe something that smells or makes sounds like a kitten. Cats will stay very far away in fear of pissing off the kitten's mother.
