Additional BFR balance consideration as of 11/7/04

Quote:
In the course of playing since our latest BFR balance change, the Design Team feels strongly that we are moving firmly in the right direction. In battles observed and fought in, BFRs are providing the desired "staying" condition to demark "front lines" away from bases and lead to more in the field fights. These fights evolve with AMS units behind cover for advance infantry deployment; loadstars acting as rear rearm depots and Flails supporting the forward advance with artillery bombardment.

Yet, BFRs still appear to be able to escape too easily, and drivers do not appear to have the desired sufficient respect of anti BFR grunts. Also, since BFRs seem to be the most obvious counter for BFRs we want to take more steps to play up the effectiveness of other counters. Combat Engineering traps appear to be effective and an often placed counter for defensive positions, so that is working as desired.

To help the perception and spur the desire for the more nimble assault buggies and ATVs to "tie up" the slower and more cumbersome BFRs, we are planning to moderately increase the effectiveness of their main guns vs. BFRs.

To help BFR pilots keep a healthy respect for grunts, we are planning to: Double the duration of EMP effects vs. BFRs Significantly increasing the Decimators damage vs. BFRs by 50% To keep the Decimator from "sniping" BFRs (or other deci targets) we are slightly reducing the Decimator's range. Slightly increasing hand held AV (Lancer, Striker and Phoenix) damage vs. BFRs
It is the desire of the above changes to greatly add to the possibility of infantry to "push out" against a base that is besieged by BFRs. Jam them and hit them hard with Decis.

We also hope to spur the use of infiltrators to move behind enemy lines to coordinate with friendly fire to Jam enemy BFRs and "snare them" to significantly reduce their ability flee when fire is brought on them.

To increase the effectiveness of Medium Battle Tanks against the BFRs, we are slightly increasing the damage dealt to BRS via their main guns.

Also, we want to increase the effect of the previous BFR shield balance changes and are planning to slightly lower the shield regen rate and also slightly increase the overall amount of absorption the shield can take.

As we outlined above, and have in our previous balance adjustments, our main goal is for balanced battlefield where tactical and strategic use of combined arms will prevail. We appreciate our customers concern for balance, your feedback and your patience while we are in this tuning process. We do feel that we are closing in on where we want to be. We will be watching and playing to see how things are progressing. We will be ready to make additional changes as necessary to reach our destination.
