Spend weekend in 'cue haven
WHAT: The main event is a barbecue cook-off, with more than 50 teams from all over the East Coast expected to compete. There's also a classic car show, arts and crafts vendors, a motorcycle show, children's rides and entertainment. The event runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m.. Admission is free.

IN BRIEF: Shelby -- about an hour west of Charlotte -- is the seat for Cleveland County. It was named after Col. Isaac Shelby, a commander at the Battle of Kings Mountain during the Revolutionary War.

CHOW: There are two barbecue places with "Bridges" in the name -- local custom is to bring folks to both and let them choose their favorite.

• Bridges Barbecue Lodge, on U.S. 74 East Bypass. 704-482-8567. Interesting note: In the early '80s, country singer Patty Loveless worked there. Open on weekends.

• Alston Bridges Barbecue, 620 Grover St. 704-482-1998. Closed Saturdays and Sundays.

Thanks for the invite!! I'm going to Auburn with my dad on Saturday, otherwise I would come up.

I will have to plan on this next year, maybe I'll be a KCBS judge by then. One of the reasons I must attend... I was looking at the pictures from last year, Sundrop on the table.
