Laggyness
I just upgraded my computer to match LadyC's. In the process, I decided to go up a step to the Barton chipset. Well, to make a long story short...I ended up needing new memory(which my motherboard will only support 1 of this correct type memory). I actually had 768 before and after went to 512. Now, with the upgrade my system is laggier/slower in Planetside than before.
So much for my new system. Went from AMD 1500XP with 768 of Generic 2100 DDR Ram to the slower AMD 2500XP with 512 of Kingston 3200 DDR Ram Last edited by Coachman; 06-08-2003 at 06:59 PM. |

I have 1.5 gig DDR2100... with planetside and teamspeak running together in a tweaked XP Pro install (all non essential services diabled, etc) I use between 700-800 meg.
A gig is damn near a requirement to play this game well. Of course, the servers are laggy anyway (I don't remember it being like this in beta) so it might just be that Coach. |

By sometime tomorrow I should have a AMD 2800 with 1gig of PC3200 ram running and I can let you know how that does. I get it back from the shop after it going in and out for a week now with other problems before I just said screw it and did a major upgrade. If all the re-installs on the new OS (XP pro) go ok then I should be able to at least try the game sometime tomorrow, though from all I have heard if you run XP and PS you need a minimum of over 700+megs of ram, 200+ for XP and 500+ for the game to run smooth(er).

If you tweak XP, you can get it down to about 60-75 meg Just gotta turn off a lot of the pretty stuff, and some services that most gaming machines don't need.
With a gig of ram, there isn't much reason to tweak it other then the experience, you'll have plenty. |

Yeah, you don't need 200Mb RAM for XP. When I boot, I use about 96Mb, but 1GB RAM is a min. for PS.. I had 512, ran poorly, went to 1Gb, super silky smooth... MMMmmmm!

Thought I was going to be smart said...
The Barton is only 5 dollars more than the 2400. Didn't count on needing new memory....plus to get above 512, I have to buy a whole new motherboard---mine only supports 1 stick of DDR at 3200 vs 3 sticks at 2100. |

I have only 512 and the game runs great for me. Until this last past week with all the lag crap they have been having on the servers.
