Stoke's Moving Progress
Day 1
Thursday 1/19/06 Closing on the house is scheduled at 4pm this afternoon. Afterwards the first load of the smaller, lightly packed boxes will be moved over. The new house is about 4 miles from the current house so that won't be too bad. Mrs. Stoke has tomorrow off so she can start unpacking some of these boxes and also meet the guys delivering the washer/dryer and refrigerator. |

Unlike driving, drinking does mix with moving.

/me envisions a scene where there is a beer in Stoke's hand and he is telling some people to move the TV over to a spot and drop it only to have the box's below it give way sending the TV to the floor.
/me sees later on Stoke trying to plug a lamp into an outlet only to have it not work and decides to test the socket with tweezer and pocket knife to find that it isn't the electical socket that isn't working but rather that he forgot to put a light bulb in. I think drinking comes in after all the work has been done, not durring or before. Don't drink and move, you may never find that stuff ever again.

Your not going to empty those boxes and then take them back to load them up for the next move are ya? We moved some friends of ours and instead of packing everything they'd only use same boxes so took forever.

Movers. Can't say enough good things about em.
This last move my folks made they had everything outside of the garage handled by movers and it worked very well. Can be a little expensive, but when you're buying a home you can sort of "build" that into the mortgage sometimes so that you pay for it, and get to deduct the interest on it from taxes while saving your backs from the hard physical labor. That's the route I would have considered anyway... |

Update #2 Ok, I officially own 2 houses now. Anyone want to buy one? I'll make you a really good deal. Western NC is a really nice place to live..... We signed all the papers and got the keys aout 5pm yesterday. We moved the first load of boxes over immediately thereafter. Mrs. Stoke is there today taking a second load and unpacking. The appliance people are scheduled to be there something here soon to deliver washer/dryer/refrig and get that all hooked up. She will be there all day so I imagine by the time I get home from work, she will be tired and I will be "released from duty" until tomorrow morning. I have a crew of nice people (that I didnt have to pay) coming over bright and early to help move the big stuff. I am very concerned as to how we are actually getting the big screen out the dorr and down the steps. It was in a box when we brought it in so it was "manageable" by 2 people and a set of appliance handtrucks. Going down is going to be a bitch.... I anticipate every thing being moved by late Sunday afternoon when all work will stop so I may watch my beloved Kittys kick some Sea Chicken ass..... |

Day #5 Well, 90% of everything that was in the old house has been moved to the new house. Of course less than 50% has actually been placed where it actually goes. A lot of stuff is sitting and waiting to be hooked up - *IF* I could actually find a power supply that matches it... Telephone should be operational today which means I can hopefully get some internet going.... |
