Ironic that the word free is in the word freedom but we know freedom isnt free. Thx to all the vets that have served in all of our wars (Canadian and European buddies too) regardless of politics.

The sad part is a lot of folks don't think of the guys (and girls!) who are either doing it now or in the recent past. The focus is always on the WWII guys. **ALL** of them deserve a big thanks!

If you have the Discovery Times Channel then you should check out "Off to War," that is a really good show.

You haven't been to THE cementary, it's well worth the trip. Brings forth all kinds of feelings from beautiful to sorrowful.

I live a few miles from Ft. Myer which is where Arlington National Cemetary is located. Just this morning a few of us met at the Iwo Jima memorial right next to the cemetary for a run across the Key bridge into Georgetown. Living in the middle of the capitol region and working to send people overseas it really hits home sometimes.
Just as a quick aside, I am against this particular war but I still do my job and you'd be suprised how many people we get from the National Guard who are volunteering to go over or go for a 2nd or 3rd time. Most of you may also not know that I was on the WA state honor guard during the deployment of most of the Soldiers in that state. I was on the firing party for all 7 of the deaths we had. It's a great honor and priviledge to give this final thanks to those who have given their lives. Every year I call multiple members of my family on Veterans Day. It's kind of a family tradition I guess. Just a quick listing: Great-Great Grandfather: WWI Grandfather and Godfather: WWII Great-Uncle: Korean War Dad and Uncle: Vietnam Brother: Luckily got out off the Army about 6 months before gulf war Me: Bosnia, and lucked out of going to Iraq only because I had just gotten back from there. The funny thing is that we haven't had a death yet and here's hoping we never will.... BTW thanks for the posts gang! |
