I've got a level 13 warlock started, gnome race - name of Catarina.
I tried to get her invited to the guild last night and was snubbed. Or no officers were on to invite her. Friend her anyway so we can group together, shes in Loch Modan at the moment.

Cynnabon made it to 41 last night. Now that I'm showing values all the time it makes me cry. 3k mana pool with only 1700 health.
Lesson to budding warlocks...try to keep stamina and mana kinda close. Life = Mana after all. Otherwise you will habitually be out of the stuff (since you don't make your own water) which makes grinding harder. Also, drain life is a very useful spell...make sure you improve it so you're draining more life than it costs mana use. Improved drain mana is also nice as it will cause 30% damage as well. Oh oh! And learn your curses! Curse of Agony is NOT the only one you have! Oh, and the tree breakdown as presented to me is: Affliction - The warlock is the important piece Demonology - The minion is the important piece Destruction - You really meant to roll a mage That's in reference to going into the upper tier talents, not in general. I went for 31 affliction and I'm on the fence about doing a near full-affliction with a bit of destruction or a more 31/20 mix. Shoddy, what'd you do since you're our veteran 'lock?

Ill ask skeez to get on Zanik for you and get the talents build, Zanik had some uber stamina build where he sucked mana off his imp.

He was affliction specced as he was the one who instructed me to go for dark pact (where he gets the mana off the imp). Would be enlightening to see his exact build though.

I'm probably not the best person to talk to about specs since I've never respecced except for the freebee they gave us when they made most of the demonology changes.
I'm affliction to dark pact. You can see my talents on the roster: clicky Improved Curse of Weakness, Improved Drain Soul, Improved Curse of Agony and Improved Drain Mana are deprecated. I got Improved Imp for the boost to Blood Pact when grouping, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone else really. I do recommend taking destruction to Shadowburn. The conventional wisdom used to be go get Dark Pact for levelling and respec to Shadow Mastery / Ruin for raid nuking. After all the talent changes, I think destruction and demonology are quite viable too and superior in some ways, but that's just from reading the same threads that you've probably read. Dark Pact is a bit underwhelming at first due to its various drawbacks, but now that I'm in the habit it's hard to let it go. I really should be respeccing to SM/Ruin or Destruction. I don't think I'm adept enough to use Demonology successfully. The Ruin part of SM/Ruin would look like: Improved Shadow Bolt Bane Shadowburn Devastation Destructive Reach Intensity Ruin Last edited by Shoddy; 10-21-2005 at 08:47 PM. |

I remember reading a post one time from a dude who said he was constantly fear-juggling two or three mobs and "never dipped under 30k xp/hr" doing it. I could never get the hang of it, though I admittedly didn't try it for terribly long. Turtles or other neutrals are probably a good way to practice if you want to give it a go.

Having played Zanik’s account I can tell you Locks rock in group pvp! Way more than Paladins! Hellz Zanik’s guy would last as long if not longer than my paladin when getting attacked. If you’re going to lvl an alt I would say get a Lock they are too much fun and we have so few in the guild.

Also note where he said "group PvP". Warlocks are great in groups, very lukewarm without from what I've seen.
Oh, and my VW sucks at holding aggro at 41. Does improved VW help with that? |

My friend plays a lock and can pretty much dominate anyone with a succubus out, whereas I pretty much dominate everyone with my bawls out

I still think you'd rather have a mage for group PvP. Just for a warlock to get back to full strength after dying takes a couple of drinks and 1-3 shards (depending on whether you want healthstone & spellstone). I can't imagine taking the time for that in Arathi Basin. |

The voidwalker is kinda weak, one crit will change the agrro to you. The only reason to use the pet is to sacrifice it, but thats my view on it. At lv 50 you can get a quest which will get you a trinket that lets you summon a voidwalker without using mana + shard. I think they did it because the pet sucks :P
Demonology kinda means that you have to depend on your pet + it eats shards away like crazy. I went for the mage build, Affliction > Nightfall and almost full destruction (I do have conflagrate). And I must say that I like it, but the chance of surviving with demonology is greater I think. But like I said My warlock is messed up, it does loads of damage, almost the same as a mage (not counting the DoTs) and my health is 4900 and my mana is 4400. But health = mana (just takes some time to convert). I guess demonology is more fun to play with but in mass pvp you will be owned like hell. And putting points in Improved voidwalker is eh.. crap but this all is my view on it so pleae prove me wrong and discuss |
