VS RULE DOWN WITH TR!
Why recruit for a dead game? Or why come to a VS forum and recruit for TR? Yes our forums are red but if you look we haven't played PS in years since the BFR's ruined that fun game . But continue if you must its entertaining me .

Planetside isn't dead... The BFR's didn't ruin the game it just gave it a new edge, a new chalange, you obviously kept getting your butt kicked every time you faced a BFR, and thats why you don't play it anymore.

Re: Planetside Republic Triumvirate enlisting
I would guess you don't remember their initial implementation then when you could take out entire platoons with one without really trying or even being properly fitted to do the job. The BFRs on the field now are massively neutered from what they once were, but that's really more a tribute to how badly thought out the whole process was. There's popular theory that one of the reasons for the departure of the initial creative force behind PS, one Mr. SmokeJumper, was the BFR debacle as you could certainly see him becoming more and more stressed as the release neared, and he did leave shortly before their release. Conjecture of course, but he never seemed to like the state of the game after that point, with some of his forum posts actually taking a critical tone of the direction producers after him took the game.
Of course, the fact that what SOE delivered in the BFRs and what the community had wanted were completely different animals was another problem. The community wanted a powerful anti-vehicle platform that was vulnerable to infantry and required a dedicated crew to make it effective. SOE delivered initially a solo death machine, which was repeatedly stated was the last thing the players wanted. While PS may not be dead in the literal sense, to true veterans the game is dead. Gone are the days of massive warfare where six continents would be fully aflame. Now, it's rare to see more than two population locks, even during primetime. Those old pop-locks even had higher population limits than they do now and what's really sad is that they finally fixed all the stupidities that kept people out of combat and their playerbase still declined. The biggest evidence that PS is not what it was can be summarized by the Markov leaderboards. Look at the top 10 kills for the Vanu Sovereignty and you'll see a fellow at #6 named Darkfact (who at one point was a regular here as well). Note the last day that he logged in. For those too lazy to do so, his last login was Septmber 26th, 2004. So basically, in the year and a third from release to when he stopped playing, he's put forth the sixth best effort for an entire server that has only been matched/beaten by five other people in the intervening 3 and a half years (more than twice the timespan it took him to accumulate those kills). While Darkfact was an undeniable beast, at the same time it speaks to how much the game has shrunk since the "glory days." Now, it's quite difficult to find that many people to kill, let alone actually do it. While BFRs are blamed, the real culprit is SOE's lack of innovation and/or their miserlyness in supporting the game with development resources. Content rarely came out, and when it did it often bore no resemblance to what people wanted (see also: Core Combat, Deliverer variants, BFRs, etc.). The war was never given a purpose or final objective, many of the promised ideas never delivered upon (see also: Command system), truly stupendous bugs that would cripple systems, and a laundry list of badly thought out ideas that had to be tweaked and re-tweaked to try and slap another coat of lipstick on the pigs that were put out. In short, the game is a shadow of what it could have been. Sadly, unless SOE wakes up and actually puts money into it, that's going to be the legacy of PlanetSide; a game with excellent promise that was left unfufilled by its publisher, like so many others before it. |
