OMG.... That is funny... What kind of person thinks to put a treadmill in some water to have a shrimp run on it like a gerbil?

Maybe it bothered the ones that got stuck out in right field cause everyone was righthanded and no one was gonna hit one out there anyway....

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land

For some odd reason I bat left-handed even though I'm right-handed (I believe it has to do with the fact that my right eye sucks...like, almost legally blind without correction kind of sucks) so growing up I was like the only time the right-fielder had to do anything which I believe greatly boosted my batting average since...well, there's a reason they're in right field.

As I got older and the right fielders didn't suck as much, I noticed a lot of teams cheating over to that side of the field. During my church softball career (with a friend's church), I actually became pretty known for the way I could pull a ball straight down the 3rd baseline. Kept the other team honest it did...

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land

Two worst positions on a church softball team. Right Field and Catcher.

The team I played on was actually fairly decent - I, of course, being one of the weaker links on the chain. I played 1st base. If we were winning handily (which was often) and one of the other teams lesser players hit a weak gounder to 3rd, our 3rd baseman would **ALWAYS** throw a knuckleball to me - just to watch me chase it back to the fence when I couldnt catch it.... The shortstop would bounce it in the dirt right in front of me for the exact same reason.....

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land

Ha, I was the shortstop and catcher...but catcher was actually a position where we needed someone who could catch since our outfielders had cannons for arms (most were actual baseball players) and could reach home in a single bounce from deep center.

1st base we had to put someone good at because our 2nd and 3rd basewomen were....well, they were very nice to look at but next to useless when the ball was coming their way, to the point that most foul balls caught over the third base line were generally caught by me...

I had a habit of injuring the other team's players (not on purpose...just the way it happened). I "retired" as an ace, having knocked six opposing players out of games. One game I actually did it to three players on one trip around the bases...started off with a line drive to the pitcher's gut....pitcher grabbed the ball and lobbed it into the air towards first before curling up in a little ball...first baseman leaps into the air to try and catch it, but moves directly into where I was running so he ends up colliding with me and going over my shoulder to land on his ass and then coming into home the catcher had the ball and was stretched WAY out to make the tag....being a former baseball catcher I knew how precarious the balance was and rammed my right shoulder into her elbow while my left clawed the ball out. Catcher literally spun around twice and landed face-first halfway to the pitcher's mound. None of those were really serious, but the people had to sit out for a bit before they could come back.

The only major one that I recall was when I was trying to make a relay throw to home, had the ball slip a bit and nailed the guy right on his temple. Went out like a light and down like a sack of potatoes where he stood. He ended up being okay, but yeah...it was just like "whack, /facedirt".

Re: Another Quiet Day Here In Forum Land

Damn straight! You mess with fire you get burned!

That was really more of my tendency to see "players" and not genders so much. If a male catcher had made that mistake, I'd have done the exact same thing. You don't try to tag falling forward with your arms outstretched....make the dive or give up on the play. This is of course calling into question why you're not on the base line to begin with, but it's church softball...you know how the throws are.

Our youth league had a rule that a team had to include two girls minimum to play. Ours had, normally, four on the field with another two waiting to sub in. Most of them were pretty cute, unfortunately in the cheerleader "I'm cute but stick to words five letters or less" way. Still, helped pass the time when you had nothing better to do.

You know who the vicious monster team was to play? The Special Olympics...not much on this earth more humbling than that. They beat EVERYBODY (Mainly because they were allowed to play in the youth bracket until they were like...25, while guys had to stop at 18 and girls at 21). They might not be there upstairs, but their arms sure as hell could wail on the ball.

Ha...and our league was even Baptist. I'm not Baptist, but my friend was...until she became a minister in a church that actually allows women to be ministers...
