Oh look a BF2 expansion is due in November

http://pc.ign.com/articles/632/632446p1.html

tl;dr version:

6 new armies, 12 new weapons 10 new vehicles, 7-8 new maps, zip lines, grapping hooks, night vision.

While this stuff sounds pretty cool and exciting, the only thing I have to say is:

HOW ABOUT SOME ROCK SOLID PATCHES AND A FEW SMALL FREE CONTENT ADDITIONS FIRST?!

They wouldn't be ANY less straight forward than this to just come right out and say "Can you give us $30 please? Thanks!" No shame... NO shame.

That said, I hope it's good when it hits. Unlike BF1942, BF2 infantry combat is really awesome and my preferred style of play in the game (even if I am a big armor whore when I plant myself in a tank). Could be some interesting stuff w/this... kindof Ghost Recon-ish--what a great game.

It's EA...why are you surprised?

Expansion at least looks interesting, so give them credit there...but at the end of the day, still good ol' "Screw the Customers for as much as we can" EA behind the developers making the game.

C'est la vie.

Oh I'm not suprised a bit... this is typical EA MO. Still, my outrage never ceases--I'll always react strongly to BS like this.

I'm still pissed about the rate it is taking to unlock weapons, that shit had better not be in the expansion.

I heard something about it being that every weapon would be available...unless you'd ever posted to a forum under the name of "skoog". In that case, you would start with a pistol and have to unlock every weapon/class/vehicle.

They said that was balanced and working as intended.

Didn't you hear? EA is trying out this new scheme...the "faux MMO".

Rather than charging you $10 a month...they release a $40 expansion pack every 4 months. You end up paying the same, but it's without the stigma of a monthly subscription.

What's scary is that's almost what it looks like...

What's worse is that night vision, zip lines and grappling hooks were removed from the release version. That's right kids, EA removed content just to add it into an "expansion" later.
One iof the EA guys said that ziplines caused waaaay too much lag and that they defeated the purpose of some vehicles.
So there you go. Once again we're screwed by EA.

The shame doesn't stop:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba...w_6129154.html

Am I over-reacting? I guess I could be. I wonder how many people consider it a slap in the face that they're pushing an expansion not even a month after retail when we still don't have a solid initial retail product (and a miserably failed first patch). W -- T -- F

I'm getting tired of reacting to these things, it doesn't change no matter what game you play it's the same thing over and over. I'm starting to settle with what they give me, if I don't like it, I wont play it.

I don't like to settle. Just because it's the norm doesn't mean it's right. Actually, though, it's not really the norm for a lot of companies. EA is the biggest offender in the market, IMO. There are MANY companies who do a good job and put their best effort in the direction of the gamer. I can start listing several companies who keep the gamer as their prime target in their sights.

I'm not going to stop playing / liking the game or go picket out front of EAs main offices, but I am going to voice my disgust. It's the least I have. If one or two other people become more aware of the way things like this go down, I feel I've accomplished something. Hell, even if I just get the chance to vent, I find that to be something.

I'm not saying I'm settling because it is the norm, but settling because most game companies who get this much screaming at them changes nothing because they set their direction and it is very rare that any amount of protest will get them to change it. Some companies make their goal to listen and implement 99% of their customer feedback even if it means cutting into their vacation time and profit, some make it their goal just to do what they want no matter the feedback and make maximum cash.

I do agree there, and EA is one of those who I'm sure will NEVER deviate from their preset course. Droves of EA gamers can scream all day and not so much as a finger will be lifted. Oh well... forums are great to vent on--especially yours!
